Israel Broussard moved out to LA from Mississippi when he was 13 to pursue acting. Since then, he has been casted in hit shows and films like The Bling Ring, Fear the Walking Dead, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Happy Death Day and its sequel Happy Death Day 2U.

On top of Israel’s sweet, boy-next door charm, few things that a lot of people don’t know is that the actor also enjoys making music and is passionate about being creative and working on carpentry.

What’s your favorite part of being an actor?

I like being given the freedom to express yourself in ways that you normally wouldn’t. It’s fun to be adventurous in another character. You’re given a lot of freedom to play make-believe and be somebody else. I think it’s fun; therapeutic.

What keeps you busy?

I like relaxing. I am a very restless person, so that’s fun. I like making music. I like doing little wood projects- making tables and stuff. I go paint-balling from time to time. Get some exercise in a way that tricks you cause I don’t go to the gym.

Can you tell us more about Happy Death Day 2 U?

The first Happy Death Day is basically a movie about this girl Tree who got stuck in the same day and kept dying at the end of the day and she had to live that day over and over again until she figured out who her killer was.

In the sequel, it starts off the day after where the first one left off. She’s still stuck in the loop. The stakes are raised a little bit. And now instead of her just dying, everybody else starts to die. So she has to figure out a way not only to save herself but save everybody else.

Is the timeloop supernatural related?

We’re not sure. Let’s put it that way. It’s a bit of adventure trying to figure that out throughout the film.

What is the filming process like having to film so many similar scenes?

It was a little difficult jumping back and forth from the crazed to the relaxed and a little bit of the dramatic but I’d say Jess had it the hardest but she killed it. She did it with ease which is pretty remarkable.

Did you ever expect “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” to blow up like it did?

We expected it to do well because it was based on a book that did very well, which is by Jenny Han, but goodness, what it did, it made waves, I wasn’t expecting that but I’m happy people enjoyed it. I’m happy people gravitated towards it.

If you were a book, what book would you be and why?

If I were a book I think I’d like to go back to the “Hardy Boys” because I like mysteries. I like trying to solve things- you know, to being the good guy in the end.
