INFINITE’S SOPHIE COOKSON IS A BOOK THAT YOU’LL READ OVER AND OVER AGAIN
BY DINO TAKASHI
Sophie Cookson stars as the highly driven and focused Nora Brightman in the conceptual action thriller Paramount+ film Infinite opposite Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The English actress recently starred in the BBC miniseries “The Trial of Christine Keeler” for the titular role. She was also in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Gypsy, and more.
She’s an actor par excellence, equally superb in action, drama and every genre in between. Think about the fusion of Angelina Jolie, Priyanka Chopra and Scarlett Johansson, and you get Cookson, an actress that exudes a badass charisma paired with strong acting prowess.
Sophie is that girl that your mom warned you about. She’s that type who would go to casting on a mission and know that the role is already hers.
Sophie can do it all and she deserves landing a major lead role for INFINITE. As one of her major breaks from a Hollywood production, it’s easy to say that she definitely earned all this attention from the film. Imagine having life-sized LEDs screens of you beside your two costars in a New York Subway stop. That’s how big of a deal this movie is especially for Sophie.
Sophie is here and ready to take over like an unexpected storm. In this interview, we talked to Sophie about this INFINITE, working with Mark Wahlberg and what’s next for her career, especially right now, during the global pandemic.
Congratulations on your American debut on a leading role on Infinite. Tell us about the process before you landed this big opportunity.
It was one of those auditions, that you absolutely don’t think you’re going to get! I just didn’t think I had a shot at all. I was thrilled and amazed when I found out as I was looking for a challenge and I definitely got that. It was an intense, very physical shoot!
There were big LED light screens of Infinite with a lifesize image of you and Mark Wahlberg in several New York City subway stations. How did you feel about it? Did your fans send you photos?
I had no idea about that, I wish I’d seen it! It’s not something I can get my head around easily!
How was working with Mark Wahlberg and the rest of the crew?
It was a lovely bunch of people to work with and Mark was very obliging at letting me practice my judo flips on him!
What should people know about this movie and your role in the film?
Infinite has incredible action scenes, but also real heart and compassion which is embodied in Nora. She’s a total steely bad ass, but underneath is fragile and having to keep it together for the sake of everyone else. She felt like a real complex woman which is something I feel this genre sometimes lacks.
What’s next for Sophie Cookson?
I’m about to start shooting something which couldn’t be more different to Infinite... so I suppose, expect surprises!
This is a question we always ask at A Book Of. If you were a book (a published one or you can make up something) what would you be and why?
That is a very hard question to answer! I would like to be a book that you could read over and over again, no matter what was going on in your life and always find something new and uplifting. Something sweet and simple, but deeply pleasurable... maybe Winnie The Pooh!
