KAYLA MAISONET [STUCK IN THE MIDDLE]
Who is Kayla? Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
I am an 18-year-old curly headed girl who lives in Los Angeles, California. I'm originally from the east coast -- Born in New York, raised in Jersey. I'm an actress who works on a show called ‘Stuck In The Middle,’ and we're currently shooting season 3. I love working out, cooking, always interested in learning about fashion and finding new places... music obsessed and curly hair enthusiast.
What sparked your interest in acting?
I always loved to perform, and I was in a dance company for years. I decided to give it a shot and sent in pictures to agents and managers. Six months later one manager got back to us. We lived close to the city (Manhattan) and drove in for my first audition and I wound up booking it.
You grew up in New York and moved to LA, how do you think your career has changed since moving here?
I think my career has totally changed. In New York, I was only doing print, commercials & theatre. Out here I've been doing TV which I love so much better... hopefully I'll venture into film.
What’s the biggest difference between New York and LA to you?
The biggest difference between NY & LA...The people, the scenery, the food, and the weather... both amazing places. I'm very grateful to have spent time in both.
As you're growing up and your career is evolving, do you feel like your approach to your role, Georgie, in Disney’s “Stuck In The Middle” is changing?
I think as I grow up my take on Georgie is different! With any character on children's programming, you want to be relatable, and I want to make sure kids out there watch SITM and feel that they are just like her.
In what ways, do you relate to Georgie?
I relate to Georgie in the way she becomes passionate about things. I’m like that myself. She tends to get excited and obsessed with her new interests and I think it’s good to be that way. That shows you care!
What roles are you drawn to right now?
The type of roles I'm drawn to are ones that are opposite from me. I'd LOVE to play a troubled girl, or a girl with powers, something memorable.
Being relatively new to the industry, do you ever feel self-conscious?
Being somewhat new to this industry I definitely find myself second guessing things. I want to make sure I'm always doing my best, that my choices are right, and that I'm believable. I think that every actor has these concerns.
What's important in life?
I think happiness is what is most important. If you are truly happy... that's all that matters, right? Happy in any place, any situation... that's what counts.
When and where are you happiest?
I'm happiest in the gym to be honest! I have a passion for working out, and the way it makes me feel. I've developed a deeper love for it over the past six months, and I'm hooked.
What are you most excited for this year?
As the year is turning the corner and almost ending, I'm most excited for the things we all look forward to. The holidays! This time of year, everyone is simmering down and doing fall/winter activities and it's comforting.
What is your dream project?
My dream project... well it could either be a film or TV series. I don't care but it would have to be confusing, twisted, intriguing, something everyone can't get enough of and is GLUED to. I'd love be on a show or movie that people can't stop talking about.
Top 3 favorite films?
Oddly enough I don't see many films, although I do love horror films. It's hard for me to say which 3 films would be my favorite which means, I have to watch movies.
Top 3 music in your playlist right now?
Anything from Daniel Ceasar's new album, and Bodak Yellow by Cardi B
Currently binge watching...
Any housewives franchise DUH... preferably New York, New Jersey, Orange County or Beverly Hills..
Any advice you can give to any aspiring artists out there?
My advice would be to be fearless. Never let fear get the best of you and jeopardize something huge.
If you’re going to have a book, what title would it be?
3,000 miles. (We drove that much from New Jersey to LA)
If you had the chance and opportunity to help a specific charity, what would it be and why?
Any charity to help with dogs. I’ve been a dog lover since I was little, and my family has a passion for dogs as well.
