BRADLEY CONSTANT IS YOUNG ROCK

BY DINO TAKASHI

Alabama born newcomer Bradley Constant is definitely on his way to stardom. It takes a precise skill to be able to recreate “The People’s Eyebrow“ The Rock’s famous raised eyebrow face and Bradley Constant nailed it. On playing the middle school version of Dwayne Johnson in the NBC show ‘YOUNG ROCK,’ Constant not only captured the Rock’s mannerisms and quips, he was also able to channel his essence whenever he’s on screen.

Bradley’s charm and his universally relatable demeanor seems innate and may also be partly attributed to the freedom that The Rock gave to him upon taking the role.

Bradley vividly remembered how he auditioned for the role, how he almost lost his mind and how he left his driver’s license in the casting room and had to pick it up the next day.

How was the experience playing Dwayne Johnson in Young Rock?

Playing Dwayne was incredible. It’s my first TV show ever. It was a big learning experience for me but it’s also one of the best experiences of my life. I will never forget it. I made a lot of friends, of course meeting Dwayne was just crazy because I grew up looking up to him so it was incredible all around.

How was the casting process like ?

It was incredible! It’s right off the rip you know you’re auditioning for a Dwayne Johnson TV show. It was a really funny script. I was super nervous. I lost my mind after the first audition. I told my mom when I get called on in another audition, It’ll be 2000 times better. I accidentally  left my drivers license in the audition room and then I actually had an excuse the next day to come back and show my face. Then I end up getting a call back then I booked it and on my final audition, it was around the Universal lot and i went in and I’ve never been on that lot before and there’s like tourists everywhere walking around taking pictures of everything. And they glued on a fake mustache to me and it started flapping off about a million times during my performance and we just rolled with it and it’s super funny and two weeks later I booked it and screamed my lungs out!

Congratulations, that was amazing! What’s your biggest purchase after booking this gig?

I am frugal with my money. I don’t touch nothing. Probably my biggest purchase was Chick-fil-a, I bought myself like 3 sandwiches and deluxe. I got the whole combo and everything and I usually would like to get chicken nuggets and I would have waived the combo but otherwise I save everything.

How was it playing Dwayne’s character, did it add extra pressure on your end?

Initially, I definitely felt the pressure playing Dwayne ‘cause I look up to him in real life. Especially after meeting him, I respect the guy. He is so genuine, honest and he has real story to tell so I really want to do right by but you know what after speaking with him it really kinda took away all the pressure. He just told me I had to be myself it wasn't about me making who Dwayne Johnson is. It’s not this big famous person everybody knows it’s bringing out that kid that anybody could see themselves in, anybody could relate to and I just found all the qualities within him that I see myself in and I did it. It was fun!

That's very good advice, and he gave you freedom instead of trying to mimic every detail!

Exactly, a lot of freedom. It’s not like he said “this is how you have to do it!” He really talked to me and gave me comfort, the cast is all there for a reason and just be myself.

What are you looking forward to the most in 2021?

The most is, hoping we’re going to get season 2 and seeing a best friend from elementary school get married. They are like family to me and we’ve known each other since we were kids.

If you were a book what would be and why?

If I would be a book, it would be called “When you need to love yourself,” it sounds corny. Maybe a book that someone can go to to read whenever they are feeling down or they’re doubting themselves and maybe my words can reassure them and help them go about their day possibly.
