HIP HOP ARTIST YUKI ON DEBUT ALBUM “BE FREE” AND WRITING HIS OWN LYRICS
Emerging Hip Hop Artist from New Zealand Yuki (Hugo Chan) chatted with us about his recently digitally released debut album Be Free. The release follows the budding artist interweaving hard-hitting hip-hop production with intricate instrumentation, straight from the heart writing, and sticky vocal melodies. This fresh and unique “D.I.Y” approach to the genre is what makes this kid exceptionally special. He writes all his lyrics himself.
Be Free “is like a melting Pot of memories, ups and downs, musical inspirations, just crammed together into 10 tracks. It’s the most honest I’ve been from a writing perspective. It’s the most ambitious I’ve been from a production perspective and I think it’s really good.”
How was the journey creating the album?
The journey creating the album was intense. It was random, but it was really good. It was the most excited I’ve been working on music with my friends and it took a lot longer than I thought it would, which is a god thing, I think. It was just in my room, making a bunch of ideas, taking that to my friends’ studios and working into big sessions to really refine it.
