NIKKI VIANNA TAKES IT ONE BY ONE
Rising singer-songwriter Nikki Vianna chatted with us about her music, her process as an artist, social media, what keeps her busy during quarantine, and her perspective as a successful artist as a whole.
Nikki Vianna is fresh off releasing her latest single “Mambo” which has amassed over 30 million views on Tik Tok and was featured in the Shazam US Discovery Top 50. With a discography only dating back to 2018, Nikki Vianna has established herself as both an emerging pop star, and an in-demand songwriter and collaborator. She’s already amassed over 50 million streams between her own singles “Done” and “When You Leave (with Matoma),” along with her high-profile collaborations with Cash Cash, Poo Bear, Yellow Claw, and Vasco.
How were you able to establish yourself as an emerging pop-star, songwriter and collaborator?
Honestly, one by one. Ha ha. It’s definitely taken a while and a lot of steps. I went to a performing arts high school so that puts you in place to begin collaborating with other folks and honing your craft – writing and singing. I’ve been lucky to link up with various people who believed in me and put me on, from Poo Bear to Flo Rida to Cash Cash. Once you start working with people, you hopefully get a good rep and they connect you with other folks. Also having good partners is important. I signed with Craig Kallman at Atlantic Records and they’ve been really good to me. I’ve done a bunch of different types of songs and each one had built on the last. I think the most important thing for people to know is that this process is never overnight. It takes time and dedication and it can be frustrating a lot of the time but you have to have faith that it’s all worth it in the end.
How does social media influenced your music and your work?
Social media is such a great tool for promoting yourself and your work and connecting with the fans. Especially now, during Corona, I’ve been able to safely stay connected to my friends and fans. It’s also good to see what other folks are up to. I love seeing other musicians using social in interesting and creative ways. I think we all help each other to stay connected and creative.
What keeps you busy during quarantine?
I’ve been writing a lot, meditating, journaling and also cooking, playing with my dogs, and hanging with family.
How do you create music? Walk us through your process.
As a songwriter…I’ll just say that you never know where the next idea is coming from. Sometimes you sit there and “try” to write. Most times, it’s an idea that’ll float into your head as your driving or cooking or playing with the dogs. Once I have an idea, I chase it and see if it has legs. Then I work with my team to find the right production partners and then the real fun begins.
Among all of your songs, which one is your favorite now and why?
It really depends on my mood. “Mambo” is a cover but it’s my fave when I’m feeling saucy…no pun intended. “Done” and “One by One” both bring back memories that make them also my faves. Not always good memories. Haha.
How would you describe your music to your new audience?
My music is soulful pop with a dash of spice
Where do you get your inspirations from? Music inspirations?
I love old movies, classic big ballads, I love the beach, I love a great giant pop dance hit – so I get my inspiration from all of those things.
