GOLDN breaking it high with a new single from once upon a star, pt.1
While building his repertoire, writing songs with and for others, GOLDN has slowly begun to amass a following within and outside the music community. He was featured on KUNGS’ “Be Right Here” and followed with his own song, the infectious “Break It.”
Break It is a sexy, infectious pop song steaming with a psychedelic desire to be free and to live life.
In this interview, Josh opens up about his music, his musical influences, his process and what book he would be if he is a book.
When did you know you wanted to be a musician?
I have been in love with music my entire life. When I was 10 years old, I got my first guitar. I learned a few chords and locked myself in my room for hours on end playing the same song over and over again. That song was “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt.
How would you describe your style?
Growing up I was influenced a lot by Punk, Hip Hop and Church music.
I would best describe my music as music that can make you feel.
What influence you as an artist?
Beautiful girls and heartbreaks.
How did your feature with KUNGS for "Be Right Here" come about?
We worked together writing a different song actually, and became friends. Later down the road his team hit me up and asked me if I would like to be the male feature on his single. Soon after I was in Paris with him, performing it on French TV.
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
I can’t wait to work with so many artists. Lana Del Rey, Drake, Rihanna, Sway Lee, Ty Dolla $ign, Party Next Door, Billie Eilish, Joji.... to name a few.
Tell us how you came to write "Break It."
“Break it” came about as a clever lyric idea, as I was falling for a badass stoner chick.
How's the song writing process for you like?
My writing process comes from real life experiences. I’m really just recording my stories with melodies.
Who are your heroes?
Hmmm...Superman, my Dad and Tony Robbins.
What's next for you?
The “Break It” music video just dropped. Also the next song “Heartbreak Drugs,” drops in November. I am stoked!!!!!!
If you're going to be a book, what book will you be and why?
The Lord of The Rings because I would love to kick it with the Hobbits in Shire.
If you can help any charity, who would it be and why?
Teen Challenge, it’s a drug rehabilitation center that helped my dad over 35 years ago turn his life around and become the amazing man he is today.
