American electronic music duo Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson collectively known as The Knocks delivers jams packed with a whole lot of good vibes. Their latest release Lucky Me (Feat Great Good Fine Ok) will definitely bring chill summer vibes back the moment you listen to it. Put it on loop for hours, and you can have your summer vacation anywhere.
The talented duo chatted with us and shared what’s in store for the fans in 2020, creating their new LP, keeping their music fresh, lots of DJing, and The Knocks & Friends parties in different North American cities.
What’s the story behind LUCKY ME (feat Great Good Fine Ok)?
It happened fairly quickly. We had the GGFO guys over to our studio in Soho and we both shared ideas that we were working on. The guys had this incredible start to the idea of lucky me and then we went in and worked on it from there.
What’s your process in producing music? Walk us briefly through your production process.
Our process is different every time. Sometimes, we will start with just the drums or a lyric idea that is interesting to flesh out. We also have been doing vinyl shopping throughout the world over the last few months looking for samples that inspire us. We just try to go with the flow of whatever sounds best and try to not force anything.
Which song is your favorite from New York Narcotic?
It’s hard to pinpoint a favorite because the album as a whole represents such a moment for us in our career, but if I had to choose a personal fav, it would be 'Limo' - JPatt
To the audience who are curious about your music, how would you describe your music to them?
Fusion dance. Daft Punk meets Gorillaz meets 2000s rap in a Brooklyn warehouse.
How do you keep your music fresh?
We stay fresh by trying to constantly listening to new and old music for inspiration, always exploring new genres. We also pay attention to what other DJ's are playing when we are out at clubs, parties, etc. at home and on the road.
Which artists do you wish to do a collaborate with in the future?
We would love to collaborate with Calvin Harris one day
What would you say is the best moment of the decade for you?
Putting out our first album, 55.
What are you most excited about in 2020? Any upcoming project/s that you want to share with your fans?We are starting to work on our next LP now. The beginning process is always exciting because there are endless possibilities of what we can do. We also are DJ'ing more this year and bringing our The Knocks & Friends party that we throw in NYC on the road to different cities in North America, hopefully expanding internationally.
