CONCERT: THIS IS MT. JOY: A NIGHT IN PHOTOS

Mt. Joy is one of those bands that makes me feel truly alive and completely present. Their music has a way of staying with me; I often find myself humming a refrain or two over and over again like a meditation, or prayer. Their rustic sound is reminiscent of sitting in front of a crackling fire on a cool autumn night, drinking spiced cider, and laughing with a group of friends, it is that good, that warm, and that bright. Heartbreaking and awe-inspiring, Mt. Joy will always be at the top of my must-listen list, I could be crying alone or driving carefree down a beautiful road at sunset; either way, I’d put on Mt. Joy.

“Life ain’t ever what it seems
These dreams are more than paper things
And it’s alright mama you’re afraid
I’ll be here along the way
I don’t wanna see those tears again
You know Jesus drives an Astrovan”
“Just stumbling down
Elysian Fields
A spanish moss
And a sudden feel
Silver moonlight in the trees
And the devil’s in my bloodstream
Don’t say you love the old me”
“We don’t come down, we just stay up all year
Counting our vices dear, and the shit that got us here
When I looked up it didn’t have to be a language
No written rules or commandments
It was enough to be alive”
“Oh, I like that feeling when it’s all out
We’re all so human with our guards down
Free from the chains of our ego
The pain is what makes us equal”
“But if it’s the drugs, the women, the wine, the weed
The love that took everything I own
Just take it all, oh oh
And tell the ones you love you love them
Teach only what you know, and oh
You better know it well”
